In 1939 we both evacuated with family but returned to our old school and became classroom friends. Later we went to work - you in Bush House and me nearby. Then began frequent queuing for theatre Balcony Seats (and visits to Stage Doors), Prom concerts, Test Matches at the Oval and Lords - we saw Bradman's last innings, rising early to sit on the grass.
After I started a family, friendship slowed down but we were always in touch and eventually we were able to travel and holidayed in England (often to Southwold), Wales and France - first to postwar Paris clutching our allowed £25 and coffee beans to tip hotel staff. Later I could drive to London to stay with Betty in Battersea where we enjoyed the garden and each other's company.
Betty I miss you.
