I feel as though I have lost a favourite aunt. I’ll never forget those stolen drags on a fag she filched on the steps of the Union Club after she was supposed to have stopped – and then the puffs I cadged off her when I was giving up! I remember being so pleased to get to know the lady whose name I remembered from the credits on the BBC Classic Serial in my teens. How proud later to be working alongside her.
